In this statement, we explain what personal data we collect, what we use it for, with whom we share data, how long we keep it, and what rights you have.
Booking & execution of tours
What data do we collect?
When you book a tour through ToursSuriname.com (and our booking system), we may process:
- Contact details: name, e-mail, phone number, residence/country (and address if necessary)
- Booking details: tour, date/time, number of people, requests
- Payment/transaction data: payment status, amount, currency and payment reference (see “Payments”)
- Communications: emails, messages via website form/WhatsApp
- Optional specified by you: dietary requirements/allergies and necessary (medical) information, only if you provide it yourself and it is necessary for safety/execution.
What do we use this data for?
- To process your booking and execute the agreement
- To send you confirmations, updates and practical information
- For proper and safe execution of the tour
- For payment, administration, fraud/chargeback processing and any refunds
- For customer service and complaint handling
Basis
We process your data on the basis of:
- Execution of the agreement (booking and tour)
- Legal obligation (administration/accounting)
- Legitimate interest (customer service, business operations, litigation)
- Permission (only where necessary, e.g., for special data such as medical information)
Retention periods
- Booking and communication data: in principle until 2 years after the tour, unless longer required for complaints/disputes.
- Administrative data: according to applicable tax retention periods.
With whom do we share your data?
Only when necessary:
- Local partners/service providers (guide, transportation, activity partners, accommodations) for implementation of the tour
- IT/hosting and email service providers that enable our website and communications
- Stripe (payments) and our booking system (processors)
Payments (Stripe)
For payments, we use Stripe as our payment service provider. Depending on availability, you can pay with iDEAL, credit/debit card and Apple Pay.
What do we process ourselves?
We usually receive and store:
- Payment status (successful/failed/refunded)
- Transaction/reference ID
- Amount, currency, date/time and booking reference
What does Stripe process?
Stripe processes payment-related data (such as card data) in accordance with their own security and privacy rules. We do not normally receive your full card details.
Contact & Customer Service
What data do we process?
- Name, e-mail address, phone number (to the extent you provide it)
- Content of your message and any attachments
Target
- Responding to inquiries, quotes and service requests
- Handling complaints or requests
Retention period
Basically up to 2 years after completion of contact, unless longer required in the event of a dispute.
Newsletter
What data do we process?
Name (optional) and e-mail address.
Target
Sending updates, travel tips and (optionally) offers.
Basis
Consent (subscription). You can always unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of each newsletter.
Retention period
Until you unsubscribe.
Sharing with third parties
We may use an external e-mail service to send the newsletter. This processes your data exclusively to send the newsletter.
Cookies & Google Analytics
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that may be placed on your device when you visit our website. We also use similar techniques (scripts/pixels) when you consent.
What types of cookies do we use?

Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to gain insight into website usage (e.g. pages visited and navigation). Cookies may be set for this purpose. Data may be processed by Google on servers outside your country (possibly outside the EU/EEA). Analytics is placed only if you give your consent via the cookie banner (depending on the consent plugin set).

Transfer outside the EU/EEA
Tours and partners are (often) located in Suriname and sometimes abroad. This means that data may be processed or shared outside the EU/EEA, for example:
- with local tour partners for implementation of the tour
- With Stripe and Google (depending on technical processing)
We limit this to what is necessary and take contractual and security measures where appropriate.
Security
We take appropriate technical and organizational measures, such as:
- access restriction (only those who need it)
- secure accounts and where possible 2FA
- encrypted connections (HTTPS)
- confidentiality and security agreements with service providers
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you are entitled to:
- access to your personal data
- correction of incorrect data
- removal (where possible)
- restriction of processing
- transferability of data
- objection to processing based on legitimate interest
- withdrawal of consent (newsletter/cookies/special data)
